Nautical Structures Industries, the Tampa, Florida-based leader in precision-engineered lifting and boarding equipment, is proud to announce it has been awarded a Lloyd’s Register (LR) Approval in Principle (AIP) for its NS-Series cranes. Full LR Type Approval is projected to follow in late Q4 2025.

The new LR Type-Approved NS-Series cranes are designed to meet or exceed multiple stringent class category requirements, including:

  • Cargo/Unmanned-Tenders (UMT)
  • Handling of Personnel (HOP)
  • Life Saving Appliances (LSA)
  • Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)

Executive Commentary

“This type-approval program was a natural evolution for our NS-Series product line,” stated Matthew Scheuler, Nautical Structures President. “It’s already one of our most popular crane series, and we wanted to continue to offer value that goes above and beyond what our products are already known for in the industry. It was a heavy lift, but with solid engineering and program planning, we believe this system is one of the best available today.”

Ron Beilman, Vice President of Engineering and Global Service, offered further insight into the technical achievement:

“This was a technically complex project, as we were tasked with taking a proven crane series and developing a comprehensive matrix of configurations that maximizes common parts. This system allows us to provide the greatest value to our customers, from entry-level to the most complex applications.

With three reach ranges, capacities from 1,700 lbs. to 5,300 lbs., rope payouts from 20 to 54 feet, and four distinct Class Designations, the matrix of possibilities was truly complicated. It required both diligence and creativity to solve for every code compliance and design limit, but that’s exactly what we accomplished. This was an engineering dream project, and we are proud to commence with a value-based solution for every customer inquiry.”
